Valerie Pignato is a Junior at James Madison University, studying Dance and Elementary Education.
She began dancing at the age of two and continued to take lessons at Jessica Morgan’s School of Dance – and later Marianne Kelley’s School of Dance.
Throughout her school years, she was a member of the studio’s competition team that performed locally and even nationally along the East Coast.
She danced in the annual Christmas parade in downtown Richmond, and performed for many community service events and fundraisers, such as the Virginia Dance Festival.
In addition to her training at her local studio, Valerie attended Chesterfield County’s Specialty Center for the Performing Arts at Thomas Dale High School.
She was part of the Specialty Center Dance Company all through her high school career. There she took weekly technique classes in ballet and modern dance and took part in weekly repertory rehearsals.
She was able to learn multiple dances from her teachers, as well as her peers, and she choreographed her own works.
During holidays breaks from school, Valerie took intensive programs through the School of the Richmond Ballet, and classes at Broadway Dance Center in New York City, NY, and the Governor’s School for the Arts at Radford University.
Valerie was a Teacher’s Assistant at her dance school for 5 years, before heading off to college. She enjoyed working with children of ages 3 to 13 in styles such as ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop.
At JMU, Valerie continues to train and further her study of dance. She is happy to have the opportunity to work with [insert program name] and looks forward to many exciting new experiences!
